My mock digi pack, draft 1
This digi-pack is obviously not as complex as my end result digi-pack. This is what i would like along the lines of, a firm emotive picture on the front and maybe back cover and an ongoing picture or theme through out eh inside of the c.d box, and across the c.d. I would like some thing that you could spend hours looking at and not see everything, like a long shot of a busy fair ground or buzzing landscape all the way through the inside and including the c.d

Muse - Digi pack
This digi pack is cool, slightly different, i like the artwork and how unique it is. Some thing like this would work in my digi pack but i was thinking some thing more along the line of a shot of landscape going through the inside and outside of the album and maybe the odd character standing on the landscape. I like the idea of an ongoing theme or picture like this one, and the graphic on the right is cool , just some thing added to the album, some thing to look at.

Oasis Album Analysis

I like the colours and the concept not sure why but the idea is smart even though it has nothing to do with the album cover.
This is like the landscape shot i was talking about, not quite sure i would be able to achieve this but a shot with lots going on in it draws the eye in.
Digi-pack Evaluation
This image is not an album covour, it is a shot of the rapper Devlin, i like the change of colour in the shot and the depth of field , this is simple but affective and would make a good album covour this is probably some thing that i would be looking at.
Possible album covours, this is obviously not supposed to be or look professional but works , it is similar to "Lose Change" i think it is affective and fun, also shows the carefree attitude of Ed Sheeran and the fact that his album is more about the music and the album cover and digi pack is more fun.
This again is not just a generic photo, because Ed Sheeran is famous and does not need to worry , then he can produce a simple album cover like this, slightly different and somthing happening but all in all not that special once again i like the keeping it simple. it has made me think that i want a shot of a landscape with a character maybe. And then that shot edited to look drawn / scetched.
Ed Sheerans first album, the original covour, i like it because it is relevent to the main single, it is the character form the music video, also it is simple and affective. I would like some thing like this, if it means drawing or creating the picture, editing it in a software i would like an affect other than just a photo.

Location, Location, Location
Perfect for somwhere for the singer, leaning up against that wall on the right, with the guitar, time lapse of the clouds and wind blowing theplants and then just merge the musician into the frame. |

Actors, Locations, Costumes and props.
- Actors
- i have chosen two girls for actors and one male singer. my family have offered to help as i need alot of characters. one of the girls is chelsea, in my class, another is Jasmin from a different college, my mother and father have agreed to take part and my sisters husband as he is perfect for the singing part, he is very rarely free because of his job so it will be hard to get videoing in so i may have to chose a different singer.

Delilah - Go
I snapped this shot because it is similar to what i will be using, the walking towards the camera singing. The setting also caught my eye, i like the fact the hall is light up but where the character is standing is just out of eye sight, it has given me a few ideas for lighting for my film.
This shot was simply to explain the timing, this is a simple shot but the movement of the character and cars noticebly fits in with the music and just makes the video more hard hitting.

I screen grabbed this image because it is a very good use of depth of field, you can see that at this moment the depth is changing to blur the singer out and focus the bacground in / mise enn scene. Depth of field is somthing i will be using but probably not for a shot of the singer, rather the actors and shots of the landscape.

This is the kind of image i will be looking for , for a shot of my singer. I like this becuase it is quite mysterious, almost half of the singers face is blocked out andthe other half is facing away and back light. My shot will be more open as there is no need for mystery in the song i am doing, but still a recurring shot of the singer.
James Blunt - Goodbye
A slightly different shot of the singer. It has given me an idea of not having the same old shot of a guy on a chair singing to a camera, maybe singing while waking up doing everyday routine, cooking, driving ect, i also like the close camera and the depth of field, dont really know what is going on in the background but it doesnt matter.
There is an odd glaze across all of the scene snaps, this makes the scene look quite animated, i like the use of the lights in this scene, making it look naturally lit. and the rule of thirds with the singer in the bottom corner of the shot drawing the eye in on him.
This is another generic shot of the singer, something i have now decided i wont be doing, maybe the odd shot of the generic guitar, chair and singing to the camera. I like the depth of field and the focus on the character and the background is of no importance as it is obviously just his room.
I screen grabbed these two next shots because of the angle they are taken and the wiered light wash over the shot. Its almost like his world brightens up when this angelic soft girl is in his room and all of a sudden the sunlight beaming through the windows is brighter than the original light coming out of the side lamps.

This is just an interesting close angle for every one to get a chance to see this girl that james is singing about.

Calvin Harris - Feel so close
This video is a perfect example of something i don,t want, everything is just a normal shot of dancing or singing, walking ect. the angles aren't interesting, there is very little use of depth of field or anything technical at all like time lapses, color washes it is just not exciting.
This is the only shot i could really find with a good use of depth of field. Obviously it is hard to realate a dance music video like this one to the slower love song type videos like the one i will be doing.
This shot caught my eye because the use of so much happening in one scene, i like the fact that the character is not the main focus, its quite an easy going shot with simply everything happening with music playing over it.
This film has just backed up my theory that it is harder to develop a music video for a dance son that is not just dancing and flashing lights, i feel i have made the right choice in music genre because it is the most versitile.

Example - Stay awake
The same thing i have been talking about, a shot of the singer but mixing it up a bit, different angles, depth of fields colour washes ect. Also i have started to think about the costumes for my characters. Like this is quite a "chav" film so the clothing is all top button done up, chinos, hoodies, high tops blah blah.
This shot interests me because of the busyness of the shot, so much going on, the wide camera lens just introduces so much to the shot and makes some thing as simple as riding a bike be quite interesting, this has shown me to not just focus on the close ups.
This isn't a shot of the singer in this film but it could be a shot of a singer. I like the use of depth of field, and the fact that her friends are in the background, acting normally it is a good affect like she is not being seen, this video even though it is totally different to the genre i am doing it has given me alot of ideas.
Just another depth of field shot, i like the fact that it has no relivance to the lyrics or the rest of the music video but some how works, i am a big fan of the abstract shots and want to incorperate somthing similar to this in my music video.

Silhouette shots are great, i would like a few of these obviously in moving picture form but in my music video maybe at the start with the cute guitar bit. |

Another shilouette shot no singing just a "day in the life of" i really like this concept |

Rough plan on my film will obviously change as my ideas develop.
- As the music kicks in a slow pan with a special andle and an effecctive depth of field or maybe a time lapse of clouds, or pan of beach, dunes ect.
- When the singing starts there will be a shot of the singer, a generic shot we will go back to, i was thinking the singer on a beach with another layer of a time lapse of clouds like everything is moving faster / too fast for the singer.
- another idea was recording a character walking towards me, pausing the camera swapping the character with another, the press play as they walk closer this would be quite a nice affect and get alot of people invloved, i like the frantic confusing movements of stop motion.

benjamin francis leftwitch
I like this shot because it draws the viewer in. The rule of thirds being used with the guitarist being a big focus, also he fact that you are looking in through the window almost as if you were getting a snippit of his life. The scene is dark and with a green tint, this is quite eary, but goes well withe the quieter part of the music video

This video is Very simple just one active shot of the boat moving with ed on top of it, simple but affective yet again this target audience could spred to all ages as the topic is of a story that would affect everyone. The setting is quite rustic and industrial and Ed's clothing is very simple suggesting it is just a poor mans video and the music is more important.
ed sheeran screen grab
This screen grab from ed sheeran is what i am looking for. symplistic but affective the camera shots and colour changes are perfect and fit in perfectly with the song. This shot is the best out of the music video because it shows the listener what they are listening to, and shows them how enthusiastic the guitar player is. I want my music video to be aimed at the same age group as this quite young and hip but my video will be with a more solem song "firefly".

finally decided to go with the slower beat of some love songs , jersey being jersey there is not much choice for any other sort of scenery with the slower tempo and more meaningful lyrics it is much easier to make an in depth movie with the right scenerey and story line, if i am going to go for a story line!.

Ed Sheeran Firefly
This song is perfect, it has some sort of structure and story line, it is slow and a powerful meaningful video could be created from this and the best thing being that this song doesn't have a music video to it. i have had loads of different thoughts on this song of what i should do, either a couple just enjoying life with the odd shot to the lead singer. A story line with nothing to do with the song, for example someone just waking up and going through their day. Or somthing similar to the skinny love video. But definately not a contriversial loud colourul fast film.
ed sheeran
i love the previous video, its simple but it works, with subtle lighting changes and close camera angles, all of these videos are slow paced and i think a more powerful video can be created from a slower paced song, rather than just dancing, raving and hand gestures. i have decided on the song Ed Sheeran Firefly.
Ed Sheeran Skinny Love
Another ed Sheeran song. Im looking into Ed's kind of music because it is upbeat has a meaning and i think the pace of his songs is perfect for a meaningful music video.
Benjamin is very similar to the videos of angus and julia stone in the way that what he is singing has nothing to do with the video, the video is very slow and fits in with the music. I like the frequent cut shots to a clip of benjamin on his guitar in a dark room it is very secretive and consuming.

angus and julia stone
the previous music video i had posted is one of my close choices now, this group have a very different way of making a music video, instead of, instead of the massive crouds dancing or the slow sweeps of grass and flowers this video is a totally seperate issue to the song but it works, everything is almost in time with the music, like the fan beating at the start is in time with the slow tempo.
Thoughts
The hardest thing about being set this task is chosing the genre of the music video, i have already got some footage for a calm surfer song but it seems to generic. I think the "ben howard" style is what i will go for but try to change things up a bit and do somthing slightly different
